The first 3 words that come to mind when thinking about Cape Town is adventure, culture, and history. There are so much to do and see for locals and visitors alike but the hassle of commuting from point A to B is off-putting, especially during rush hour traffic.  No more! There is a simple, safe and reliable way of commuting through Cape Town that allows you to explore and enjoy the best the city has to offer.

The MyCiTi solution

The MyCiTi Bus route was established just ahead of the 2010 Soccer World Cup. The purpose of this bus system was to transport visitors to and from the Civic Centre to the airport.  It also had a round-about route that would take tourists to the city’s historical sites like Greenmarket Square, Bo Kaap, the Castle and more.  It has since then expanded its routes to include areas like Blouberg, Melkbosstrand,  Century City, Salt River and more. It also offers commuters the opportunity to bring along surfboards and bikes during off-peak times and weekends.

How it works

There are numerous bus stops located throughout the city of Cape Town.  The MyCiTi Bus service is a cashless service which means you can’t pay with money or by credit card. You need to purchase a “myconnect” card from any one of the MyCiTi station stands.  These cards cost only R35 and can be recharged as you require. Almost like a pay-as-you-go but cards cannot be recharged on busses. It works on a tap-in tap-out system which deducts money from your card, and the fare depends on the distance you have travelled. MyCiTi buses are extremely affordable, reliable and save for commuters.

Ease of access

Whether you want to explore Cape Town’s historical sites, the numerous entertainment and shopping locations or simply want to go to the beach for the day, the MyCiTi Bus is your easy-to-use method of transport. There are no more excuses for staying at home. Visit the MyCiTi website to find out about routes, rates, and schedules.
